MC Soze & The Keysers - Filipino Death Ray

Found this while rooting through ancient files on my computer, and it struck me as a sort of inverse of this blog concept: a real-looking cover to a fake album. The story here is that, back in college, my band and I decided to create a fake trip-hop band (I’m sure we had some sort of reasoning behind this, but I’ll be damned if I can remember what it was). We spent maybe an hour recording one track, dubbed ourselves MC Soze & The Keysers (we must have just rewatched The Usual Suspects), and created a fake MySpace page, back when that was a thing that bands did. Deciding that the Keysers were from Tulsa, Oklahoma, (and were also huge Oasis fans for some reason), we started friending random bands and musicians from the area, to surprisingly favorable notices. We even got invited to a few events, which, in retrospect, we should have flown out and gone to and seen what happened.

Looking back, I’m not sure why we didn’t do more with this; the track actually sounds more professional than most of our “real” music from that period, and I’m still pretty proud of both the faux-pretentious bio on the MySpace (“We make SOUNDS. You LISTEN. Okay? Okay.”) and the above “cover art,” which I had frankly forgotten I made until last night. But hey— if Tupac can come back, maybe an MC Soze reunion isn’t out of the question.

Nice find I forgot about that.
